Hopping Around the World – Sympathy

Hi Everyone. I hope you are enjoying our Blog Hop so far. Maybe you have come to me from Maureen‘s blog or you have come direct from my posts. Either way, Welcome. These types of cards are never a fun occasion to make cards for, however, Stampin’ Up! has some beautiful stamp sets and die bundles to make our job much easier. Prized Peony Stamp Set and Peony Dies

The card is made from the DSP cut at 4″ x 12″. Make sure if your paper is directional it is going the right way. The pattern should be up and down on the 4″ side. Score the paper on the 12″ length at 5 1/2″ and 1″. This will create a card base of DSP at 4″ X 5 1/2″ with the back side of the dsp folded to the front for the 1″ piece. On this card I also cut the edge of the folded up piece with the detail edge die in the Peony dies.

For the focal image on the card front I poisitioned my thick Whisper White cardstock in the Stamparatus and stamped the beautiful peony in Sahara Sand and coloured it with my Stampin Blends. I used Petal Pink dark and light for the flower and Old Olive dark and light for the leaves and stems. I coloured the whole area of the flower with the light blend and then edged just outside of the dark stamped area with the dark using the bullet tip. I then went over the blended dark area with the bullet tip of the light to blend away any harsh lines. I used the same method for the leaves and stem. Because I originally positioned the cardstock to stamp my image in my Stamparatus, I was able to place the completed piece back in the Stamparatus. I used the embossing buddy over the entire image and then stamped in Versamark ink. I used Gold embossing powder and heat set it until it melted to an awesome shine. Credit to my Sister, Michele Nadine for this tip. This really finishes off the flower in the most beautiful way. I then die cut the peony using the Peony Dies.

Next I cut a piece of Petal Pink cardstock slightly larger than the beautiful Square Vellum Doilies and then fussy cut the cardstock around the doily. I positioned the Peony on the Vellum and put regular Stampin’ Dimensionals where they wouldn’t be seen to pop up the Vellum doily I then added another layer of regular or mini Stampin’ Dimentionals to the die cut on top of the Vellum so there was dimension on both layers. I really love the way this turned out.

The next step was to glue down the front 1″ flap to the card front. I used some Tear and Tape to ensure this would not let go. I then adhered the vellum flower piece to the front using Tear and Tape as well. The sentiment I stamped on Petal Pink Cardstock in Basic Grey Ink and fussy cut around the words. I popped it up on dimensionals as well. To complete the front, I added some Elegant Faceted Gems to give it a little more sparkle. All in all a very simple but effective look.

On the inside I added a piece of whisper white cardstock cut at 3 3/4″ X 5 1/4″ and then another petal pink piece at 3 1/2″ x 5″ to make the card a little more sturdy. I stamped the inside using Basic Grey ink with another peony image and sentiment from the Prized Peony Stamp set. I adhered these to the inside of the DSP card base and look how the inside is beautiful too as it shows off the other side of the gorgeous DSP.
